In 2021, ReSource was involved in a multi-phase pilot project with Svenska Förpackningsinsamlingen (FTI) that aimed at improving the system efficiency by collecting real-time data on volumes and amounts. The project focused on the following household waste (HW) fractions:

  • Paper and Cardboard
  • Metal
  • Plastics

ReSource provided a turn-key solution which focused on the operational value that technology and data can add to an organisation collecting recyclables. The sensor and data platform was provided by Sensoneo. The results were promising and the data-driven approach turned out to be a success. Using a smart waste management approach municipalities could improve collection costs by 15-30%. If you are curious to know more about how to operate an optimized material collection, you can contact us.

As a direct consequence of the amendments brought to the national regulation on the Swedish Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in 2022, the packaging collection system will be from 1st of January 2024, the responsibility of the municipalities. ReSource is determined to help Swedish municipalities in their journey towards more optimized waste management and replicate the successful results of the pilot project into the new national setup.
